How to connect Xbox 360 Wired Controller to a Laptop

The latest versions of Xbox 360 come with wireless controllers which can be connected to personal computers, tablets and laptops using the wireless gaming receiver but that does not mean that gamers who still own wired controllers cannot connect their controllers to their PCs and laptops. Users still using the wired controllers do not need to get dishearten because we will give you a step by step guide on how to connect your Xbox 360 wired controllers to your PC.

Using this guide, you can connect as many Xbox 360 wired controllers to your personal computer/ laptop as many powered 2.0 USBs you have.

Step 1: Installing the Xbox 360 Controller Software on your PC/Laptop

First of all you will have to use the software installation CD, which comes with your Xbox 360 wired controllers, to install the controller software on your PC/laptop.

The procedure to install the software is as follow:

– Insert the installation CD in your CD/DVD rom of your PC.

– The setup should automatically start, and if it does not, then you would have to manually open the CD/DVD rom from “My  Computer.”

– When the setup starts, click on “Install”

– The setup will install the necessary files needed to run Xbox 360 accessories with your PC/laptop.

You might have to restart your computer once the setup finishes.

Note: Do not connect your Xbox 360 wired controller to your computer before or while installing the software.

In case you are unable to find your installation disk or it gets damaged, you always have the option of downloading the Xbox 360 controller software from the official Microsoft website. The entire variety of Xbox 360 controllers and accessories software is available on the Hardware page of Microsoft website. The downloaded software will install the required files on your computer and will prompt you to restart the computer.

Once the installation is complete, now you will have to connect your Xbox 360 wired controller to your PC/laptop. Just simply plug the USB end of your Xbox 360 wired controller to the USB 2.0 port of your PC/laptop.
