How to setup iMessage

One of the new features of iOS 5 is iMessage, which allows you to send and receive free messages just like Blackberry Messenger service. In case of iPhone, if you have the 3G,4, then you have the opportunity of upgrading it with the latest iOS version 5 in order to use this free messaging service. Secondly you have to have the internet connection for this you can use the WiFi connection or you can also use the carrier network, it transfer all the data through internet just like an instant message.
Keep in mind if you upgrade your iOS then iPhone will ask you to re-enter your Apple ID (if not then create) to setup the iCloud, including the iMessage feature and your  ID will be used as your iMessage identity or you can also link your number as your identity for iMessage. While setting up iCloud it will ask you to sync your iPhone contacts with the iCloud, because when you use the iMessage feature it will automatically find and compile a list of all your contacts/e-mails from iCloud that are using this iMessage service. So you can only send iMessage to those friends who are on iCloud and using this service. You can also enter e-mail address manually, if you don’t want to use the iCloud.

Now perform the following steps to use this free iMessage service after confirming that your iPhone with iOS 5 has connected with the internet:

Step 1:

Your iDevice has the iOS 5 then you just have to turn “ON” the iMessage service and you can do this by tapping the settingàMessages. As you can see in the below screen there are other options “send read receipt” which notifies when the sender that you have received the iMessage by default it is “OFF”. Other option is “send as SMS” which allows you to send this iMessage as SMS only if there is no internet connectivity and you must need to send message, then rates of your carrier’s service may be applied. Similarly you can turn “ON” SMS/MMS setting like “Character Count”, “Show Subject field” and “MMS Messaging” as the below screen highlights:
